Fourth Friends of Hungary Conference

"It's great to be Hungarian" - Friends of Hungary Foundation held its fourth meeting in Budapest

The Friends of Hungary Foundation held its 4th World Meeting between 5th and 7th of May in Budapest. At the conference, members of the Hungarian government delivered speeches, while the some 200 members of the Friends of Hungary Foundation, welcomed from 24 different countries, were received by President of the Republic János Áder. The Friends of Hungary Foundation, headed by former chairman of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences E. Sylvester Vizi, aims to serve as a bridge connecting Hungarians living in the Carpathian Basin with their compatriots in the diaspora. The Foundation’s mission is to provide value-based but non-partisan information to the community of Hungary’s friends and the general public on events and results concerning Hungary and Hungarians living around the world. The members of the Foundation are not only successful and honorable expatriate Hungarians but also foreigners, who are fond of Hungarian culture. Their increasing number helps the Foundation to improve Hungary’s reputation abroad, shaping the image of the country more complete and accurate. The Foundation’s English-language news portal Hungary Today and German-language blog Ungarn Heute provide foreigners interested in Hungary with information about the country on a daily basis. Participants of the 4th Friends of Hungary World Meeting were received by President János Áder at the Sándor Palace in the Buda Castle on Friday. On the second day of the conference, round-table talks were held on Hungarian science, arts and sports, as well as on the situation of Hungarian minorities abroad. On Saturday, prominent figures of Hungary’s political life were present to delivered lectures to the participants. As part of the “Meet you ambassador” programme, American, Canadian and British nationals attending the conference were received by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires David Kostelancik, Her Excellency Ambassador Isabelle Poupart and His Excellency Ambassador Iain Lindsay respectively.
