From the political reports of the nuncio Angelo Rotta, I. 1930-1939 and II. 1938-1945

Edited: Ádám Somorjai OSB, Budapest, 2022

two volumes

Volume 1, 1930-1939

The papal nuncio Angelo Rotta was appointed to Hungary on February 19, 1930, where he served for 15 years. In this volume, the reader will find sources reporting on the political and religious events of the first ten years, of which the 4th World Scout Meeting in Gödöllő and the 34th International Eucharistic Congress held in Budapest stand out. The nuncio's reports on these events positively assess the organization of the event, which was attended by the greatest Hungarian public dignitaries. Reports can also be read about the elections, laws and the most important issues affecting the Catholic Church of the period.

Volume 2 1938-1945

Some of the selected documents in the second volume report on personal issues, primarily on members of the Hungarian government, opinion-forming politicians and church figures. Angelo Rotta also reports on events within the Hungarian Church, as well as on the ambassadorial activities of the Holy See and its work in protecting the Jewish people until April 1945, when the nunciature was expelled from Hungary.
